Sundaes and Song Honors Leonard Austin

September 29, 2016 By eastwickpress

by Gail Smith Hoosick Falls Central School’s Class of 1974 sponsored a Welcome Home/ Birthday Bash/ Fundraiser on Sunday, September 18, for classmate Leonard Austin who was involved in a life-altering farm accident on January 13.[private] The event was held at the North Hoosick Fire House with approximately 150 classmates, family, friends and supporters in attendance.

Funds were raised through donations for Make-Your-Own Sundaes and a Chinese Auction to help offset the Austin family’s medical expenses. One for the Road entertained us with some Rock ‘n Roll, and Shari Hand and Goober Steller sang tunes from the 70s plus a couple of songs that have had special meaning over the months. Len loves to dance so his classmates dedicated Wipeout (his favorite dance tune) to him and many danced in his honor.

Tears were shed as those in attendance watched a slide show depicting Lenny’s perseverance through his recovery journey in rehab, from his weeks of unresponsiveness through the present. More tissues were needed as Len gave a moving “Thank You” to attendees for their love, support and prayers. Len is aptly being referred to as the “Miracle Man” because of his amazing recovery against all odds.

The Class of 1974 would like to thank the North Hoosick Fire Department for use of their facility; Stewarts for donating all of the ice cream and fixings and those who donated dry toppings; One for the Road, Shari Hand and Goober Steller for the music; all who donated Chinese and Silent Auction items; Debbie Bartalucci for face painting; Nikki for the “Thumbs Up” cake and Becky Benkoski for cupcakes.

Thanks to all who stopped in to have ice cream, bid on items and say “Hello” to Len, but especially to those who have been supporting him in their thoughts and prayers throughout these past 9 months.[/private]
