A Restored Airplane Is The Topic At Stephentown Historical Society

October 27, 2016 By eastwickpress

Dana Tarr will present “Wings Over Stephentown:  Restoring and Flying a Stinson Flying Station Wagon” to the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Sunday afternoon, November 6, at 2 pm. [private] This program is the first in the winter schedule at the Stephentown Historical Society’s Heritage Center.  The Center is at 4 Staples Road at its junction with Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown, New York.  The building is handicapped accessible.  For directions, telephone (518) 733-0010.

Tarr, a Stephentown resident and a retired auto restorer and mechanic, bought his 1949 Stinson airplane in parts about three years ago.  He spent two years working in his basement on the restoration and has been flying the plane for about one year.  Tarr will tell about the Stinson company and their innovations, his restoration project, and show pictures of the process and some air views of Stephentown taken from the plane by David Flint.

The “Flying Station Wagon” can carry four people and has wood paneling inside the cabin, much like the old woodie station wagons.  It is a tail-wheel plane with a fabric-covered fuselage. [/private]
