Saturday, April 20, 1839: This afternoon I took my single wagon and rode over after Angeline but she had walked from her school house and I met her to Hiram Brown’s where the inspectors met and inspected the school teachers and I carried over Jane Wylie and she was inspected with the rest. She teaches in our district.
[private]Wednesday: I mended fence where the water had carried the fence away. This afternoon I took my single wagon and carried my wife to Lebanon to N. Nichols Store and carried butter and eggs and traded a little and had it credited on account, which was nearly three dollars, and I carried three half bushels of corn at eighty-eight cts per bushel to Old Mr. Roces store which precisely balanced my account and we rode down to Elem Tilden’s store. I only paid six cts for calomel and we returned to N. Nichols and he divided it to portions and took out some for his own use. We returned home and gave the third portion to our daughter Sarah before we could make one stay down she was seized with a violent fever and hard headache and pain in the side and breast. We had to be up nearly all night with her.
Thursday: Today we went on to my Rodgers farm to plowing, but at noon Stephen Wheeler came and told me that Sarah was worse. I left my two sons to plow and I walked home and then I walked to Lebanon after Doctor Right, and he came and gave Sarah a vomit and left fever powders and other medicine. When I returned home I then walked over to my Rodgers Farm and came home with my team from plowing for the first time my two sons were left to plow.
Friday: this morning Sarah was no better and I sent my son Geo P on horse after Doctor Right. He came and administered to my child. We took my broken down pleasure wagon and put the box on to my lumber wagon and then fastened the running part behind
Saturday: We worked on my Rodgers farm, my sons plowed and I mended fence. On the way home I fetched sister Polla Wylie and she watched with Sarah. Sunday: Today Sarah is some relieved. Said Doctor Right came again, which makes four times.[/private]
