HF Scores 30 Unanswered Points, Wins 30 – 7

October 13, 2016 By eastwickpress

After falling behind by 7 in the first quarter, the Hoosick Falls Panthers (3-3) held the Coxsackie – Athens Indians (4-2) scoreless and scored 30 points.

C-A started their first possession on their 20 yard line and marched down the field in six plays to the Panther 26 yard line. From there C-A’s Tyler Westervelt ran in the remaining yards to give C-A a six point lead. The PAT kick was good. With C-A having scored 62 points the previous week, this quick score didn’t appear to be a good thing.

[private]It didn’t take long to end any thoughts of a C-A runaway. After the kickoff put the ball at their own 40 yard line, Hoosick Falls quickly went downfield and put the ball over the goal line, capped by Drew Hoag’s two yard run. The two point PAT was good and the Panthers had a one point lead.

It was all Hoosick Falls from there.

Quarterback Aaron Tomczak scored from one yard out and added the run for a two point PAT in the second quarter to give the Panthers some breathing room.

AJ Hurlbert kept the momentum going for Hoosick Falls in the third quarter when he intercepted an Indian pass and ran it back 35 yards for a score. The Panthers added one more score in the third quarter when Tristian Hunt galloped 18 yards for a score.

Tomczak threw for 102 yards. Hunt ran for 105 yard and had 46 receiving yards. Drew Hoag added 94 rushing yards and Nick Giordano had 38 receiving yards with three catches.

Next week the regular season comes to an end with the Panthers hosting Corinth (1-5) on Friday evening, October 14. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm. Last weekend Corinth lost to Greenwich, 27-12.

In other Class C North Division action, Hoosic Valley defeated Fonda, 53-0; Lake George beat Granville, 30-6 and Tamarac clobbered Cairo-Durham, 47-6. In Class D action, Cambridge defeated Canajoharie, 34-6. It was an off day for the Indians as they have scored 60 or more points in four out of six games this season.[/private]
