Hoosick Falls won its game against Corinth (1-6) Friday night on Aaron Tomczak’s five touchdown passes. It also won its way into Class C sectional play with the number eight seed.

[private]The Panthers grabbed a 12-0 second quarter lead on two Aaron Tomczak to Tristan Hunt passes before Corinth could put any points on the board. Corinth responded with a drive that ended with a four yard dive to get back within 12 points of Hoosick Falls.

Tomczak wasn’t done. A 22 yard strike to Nick Giordano and a 29 yarder to Hunt that ended after the second quarter had expired gave the Panthers a 24-6 cushion. The pass from Tomczak to Hunt was sideways, caught at the 30 yard line. Then Hunt went 20 yards up the sideline and all the way across the field to score at the pylon on the other side of the field. The official distance of the play was 29 yards, but the distance covered was closer to 70. All of the first half PATs, all two point attempts, failed.

Corinth scored the only points of the third quarter on a four yard rush. David Everard snagged Tomczak’s fifth TD pass on a nine yard pass into the end zone.

Tomczak finished the game with 220 yards passing and five TD passes, going 12 for 25. Everard caught two passes for 60 yards, Giordano added 60 more yards on three catches.

With the win the Panthers will be participating in sectional play.

Section 2, Class C consists of three divisions with a total of 17 teams, and this year eight of those teams will participate. Over the years Section 2 has used different methods to determine who makes the sectionals.

This year the three division champions, Voorheesville (1), Hoosic Valley (2), and Watervliet (3) were automatics. The next five seeds were based on their total football points, no matter which division they played in, putting in Stillwater (4) and Mechanicville (5). Greenwich (6) and Holy Trinity (7), both 5-2, finished with 17.5 football points. Greenwich won the quarter points over common opponents by 20-18, giving them the higher seed. Points are based on opponents, with priority given to a team’s record against better teams.

This left the number eight seed up for grabs between Hoosick Falls, Coxsackie – Athens and Lake George / Hadley-Luzurne. The race was narrowed to two when LG/H-L scored 13.5 football points to Hoosick Falls and C-A 14.5. Finally, by defeating C-A during the regular season, Hoosick Falls was determined to be the eighth seed.

All this means Hoosick Falls will travel to Voorheesville (6-1) on Saturday, October 22, for the first sectional playoff round. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm, a change from the original time of 1 pm. The one common opponent both teams played, Coxsackie – Athens, Voorheesville won 26-6, while HF won, 30-6.[/private]
