Webster Running Unopposed For Supervisor; Schaaphok And McCumber Running For The Remaining Three Years Of His Term
As Councilman In Petersburgh, there are two offices up for election. Both are unexpired terms. For Supervisor there is a year left of Peter Schaaphok’s term of office. [private]The person elected to this position will serve through the end of 2017. Another election will be held a year from now for the new two year term starting in January of 2018.
Incumbent Supervisor Alan Webster has agreed to run for Supervisor for the remainder of Schaaphok’s term through the end of 2017. He said he agreed to run because he believes the Town is in the middle of a number of high stakes negotiations having to do with the PFOA issue, and continuity is important.
He said it has taken months to establish good lines of communication with Taconic, the State agencies involved, and the various lawyers involved, and it doesn’t seem like a good moment to exit the scene and have someone else have to jump in and get up to speed. Webster has been endorsed by both Republicans and Democrats for Supervisor, so he will be running for it unopposed. Webster said, “I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of both parties.”
Also on the ballot is the remainder of Alan Webster’s term as Councilman, which is for 3 years, through the end of 2019. Amy Schaaphok was appointed to this position by the Town Board for the remainder of 2016, so she is the incumbent. The Republican Party has endorsed Schaaphok for this seat, and the Democratic Party has nominated Dan McCumber to run against her. So the only contested election next month is between Schaaphok and McCumber to fill the remaining three years of Alan Webster’s term as Councilman.
A meet the candidates night is planned for Thursday evening October 6.[/private]
