Voorheesville Downs Hoosick Falls, 29-6

October 27, 2016 By eastwickpress

On a day that was the definition of raw, the Panthers (4-4) faced the Voorheesville Blackbirds (7-1). [private]The number one seeded ‘Birds were hosting the number eight Panthers on a day that gave every indication that the total points scored in the game might not amount to double figures. It was raining, the wind was howling and it was cold.

The 100 or so fans, total, that came out for the game left the field at the half to go sit in their cars and warm up. Not all of them returned.

Voorheesville scored a touchdown in every quarter to get the win. On their first possession, they drove down the field and scored. After tacking on a PAT kick, they had what would eventually prove to be an insurmountable lead. The ‘Birds added another TD in the second quarter on a 17 yard pass. The Panthers had an opportunity to score just before halftime when they drove down to the ‘Birds two yard line but time expired before they were able to get the ball into the end zone. Voorheesville added 16 more points in the second half to grab a 29-0 lead. The Panthers score came after a 40 yard drive ended with a seven yard pass from Aaron Tomczak to David Everard late in the fourth quarter.

Tomczak threw for 95 yards, going 11 of 29 with one TD. Tomczak and Drew Hoag each rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries.

Saturday, October 29, the Panthers travel to Stillwater to play the Warriors (5-3). Game time is 10 am. Yes, 10 am. Hot coffee and football.[/private]
