Amy Schaaphok Retains Her Seat On The Petersburgh Town Board

By the margin of 706 – 350, Allison Kirchner held on to the council seat she was appointed to in January. Kirchner, the Republican backed candidate, was opposed by Democrat Vicky Burdick. [private]The seat was vacated when Ingrid Gundrum was elected Town Supervisor. The turnout in Grafton was exceptionally high. 1175 ballots were cast at the polls, with another 61 absentee ballots received and 23 votes cast by affidavit. Speaking with The Eastwick Press on Election night, Kirchner said “I appreciate all the support I received and want to say thank you. I look forward to continuing to serve the Town of Grafton.”
Burdick said, “I am happy for Allison and not at all disappointed.” Burdick also said the campaign was a good learning experience and she would consider possibly seeking elected office again in the future.
Kirchner will fill the seat for another year until the term expires. She would have to seek office again in 2017 if she wished to serve a full four-year term. There were no other local races in Grafton this year.
Schaaphok Outpolls McCumber

Amy Schaaphok, running on the Republican line for a Town Board seat in Petersburgh, received 340 votes. Democartic candidate Dan McCumber received 270 votes.
Last June when Peter Schaaphok resigned as Supervisor and Councilman Alan Webster was appointed Supervisor, Amy Schaaphok was appointed to the Peterburgh Town Board to take Webster’s place, and has served on the Board since then.
Turnout was heavy in Petersburgh, with 679 voters casting ballots, about 70% of the registered voters. Alan Webster, endorsed by both parties for Supervisor, received 596 votes.[/private]
