Harold L. Church

New Lebanon – Harold L. Church, 88, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at his home in New Lebanon.[private]Born and raised in New Lebanon, NY, he was a graduate of New Lebanon High School.  He was a US Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.

Ob-ChurchwebAfter his war service, Harold entered the apprentice program at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield and was a design draftsman at General Electric for over 40 years before retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Masons in New Lebanon and was a firefighter for the Lebanon Valley Protective Association.

He was a history buff especially the Civil War era and visited many of the Civil War battlefields with his wife.  He also enjoyed bird watching and loved the railroad and trains and was a member of the Rutland Railroad Association.  What he loved most was taking car rides on country roads with his grandson, Adam.

He was the husband of the late Greta Gibbs Church who died October 2, 1991; beloved father of Carol C. (Alan) Gauthier of Hampden, MA and Jane E. Church of Frametown, WV; proud grandfather of Adam M. Gauthier of Hampden, MA; brother of the late Warren Church; and the grandson of the late Cora Weeden whom he adored.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family with burial in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blue Star Equiculture, PO Box 7, Bondsville, MA  01009, a sanctuary for retired, disabled and homeless work horses.

Arrangements are by the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, Stephentown, NY.  Condolence book at ParkerBrosMemorial.com.
