Early Monday afternoon October 31, a Troy Sand & Gravel truck overturned just west of Eagle Bridge (picture at right).
The driver, a male who appeared to be in his late fifties, was unhurt. He repeatedly said, “I don’t know what happened.” The truck and empty trailer, traveling east, left the roadway after entering a curve and failed to turn. Almost immediately it was down in the ditch and tore through the ditch for more than 125 feet before coming to a stop. Ironically, the owner of the company was traveling the same road on business and came upon the scene. He mentioned, “It’s hard to assess the damage. Sometimes more damage occurs after an accident by the difficulty of getting the truck upright than by the accident itself.” The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad and Buskirk Fire Department responded.
Pickup Truck Doesn’t Stop

A New York registered Ford F-150 pickup truck didn’t stop when it came up on cars stopped on Route 22 for a bus. The vehicle appeared to be traveling about 45 mph when it slammed into the rear of Bill Hanselman’s Toyota Titan truck. Hanselman’s truck then was shoved forward into a Subaru sedan. The accident occurred just north of the entrance to the Meadows and the Barbecue Lanes at 8:20 am. No one appeared seriously injured, although the driver of the sedan did say her back hurt. One of the people involved said the Ford truck’s windshield was completely covered in frost. It was not known why, but the driver of the Ford truck was removed from the scene in handcuffs.
Vehicles Collide At 279 Intersection, DWI Issued
Two vehicles collided Sunday evening October 30 when one pulled out in front of the other at the Route 7 / Route 279 intersection. A Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling west went through the blinking red light and pulled out in front of a compact Chevrolet sedan headed east toward Bennington. Neither driver, the sole occupant of each vehicle, was injured in the crash. The impact turned the sedan, traveling at about 50 mph, ninety degrees to the left where it ended up in the ditch. The sedan driver, a male in his twenties, was headed to see friends in Arlington. The other driver, a male who appeared to be in his forties, was cited for DWI. The New York State Police, the Hoosick Fire Department and Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad responded to the scene. Photo by Steve Bradley.[/private]
