Sunday, Augusts 11, 1839: This evening I started for Troy. I carried seven bushels of potatoes and six bushels of apples and Charlotte went with me.[private] We travelled all night and got into Troy at daylight on Monday.
Monday: This morning at daylight we got into Troy and called to Mr. Miles tavern in Congress St and Charlotte went to bed and I drove round town and sold out my potatoes and apples. I sold both potatoes and apples for 37 to 50 cts per bushel and I expected that I got about five dol for my load. I was two hours selling out my load, and then it began to rain and rained til one o’clock this afternoon, and then Charlotte went with me to trade. I paid five dollars for her a black figured veil, and I paid one dol and 88 cts the gause and silk for Angeline to work her a veil, and I paid seventy five cts for three yds ribbon. We started out of Troy at four o’clock this afternoon and we fetched a young lady by the name of Emiline Vickery to Sand Lake to the Stage tavern, what is called Spencer’s old stand. There bated my team and paid six cts for bitters and we ate some victuals. I walked most of the way from Troy to Sand Lake for my load was heavy and to carry Miss Vickery and her baggage and she paid me seventy five cts for fetching her and we came home tonight and got home at two o’clock this evening.
Tuesday: We hayed on said Rodgers farm and finished mowing but did not draw it into the barn. On this evening I went to Lebanon with my team and carried Edwin E. Griggs salt which was 14 bushels and a sack of fine and he paid me 25 cts for I paid it on his bill in Troy and he credits me on account for fetching in said salt.
Wednesday: This afternoon we drew in the hay we cut yesterday which was two large loads and then we fetched home a load of old wood that came out of a fence. We new set said fence.[/private]
