Sale Of Stephentown Elementary School Building

January 12, 2017 By eastwickpress

The Stephentown Elementary School building, reported last week to have been sold to local cheese making company, Four Fat Fowl, sold for a purchase price of $45,000, said Berlin Central School District Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young.[private]

The property had earlier been subdivided by the District. The parcel sold includes the building, and the land with the facility’s septic system, which goes straight back behind the building to the property line.

The parcel with the soccer field and the basketball court will remain in the School District.

“We retain ownership and it will continue to be used for the enjoyment of the District and residents of the Town of Stephentown,” said Dr. Young.

The Superintendent also added that “all memorabilia including historical plaques, artwork, and other items were removed and are in storage. We are considering hanging several of the items in Berlin Elementary School. Other items may be transferred or donated to the Stephentown Historical Society, but that has yet to be determined.”

The Stephentown school was closed in 2009. The property had previously been the subject of an offer in June 2015 for $35,000 from a developer reportedly interested in turning the building into apartments. [/private]
