Donald Bogardus

Hoosick Falls – Donald E. Bogardus, 85, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. [private]He resided on Parsons Avenue with his wife Esther A. (Mattison) Bogardus.

Don was born on October 26, 1931, in Hoosick Falls, son of the late William F. and Rose (Houle) Bogardus. He was educated at St. Mary’s Academy. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He owned and operated Don’s Barber Shop in Hoosick Falls from 1958 until recently.

Don was very active in the community serving as Mayor for twenty-five years. He also served at the Town of Hoosick Youth Commission, Community Center, where he was past president, belonged to the Lions Club, former Elks # 178, Eagles Arie # 2467, Life Member of American Legion Post # 40, where he was a past commander, Life Member of St. Stanislaw Society, Owlkill Rod & Gun Club,was co-chairman of the former Drum & Bugle Corp, all in Hoosick Falls. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher and greeter.

Survivors other than his wife Esther include their children Curtis Bogardus (Chris) and Terry Loomis (Jeff) all of Hoosick Falls, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Don is predeceased by a son Joseph Bogardus, sister Rose Queen and five brothers Robert, Joseph, Francis (Rah), Richard and Rev. Thomas Bogardus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday February 17, at 10 am, from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Thursday February 16, from 4 to 7 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Legion Post # 40 or St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home. [/private]
