Hoosick Grange News

February 23, 2017 By eastwickpress

submitted by Corinne Philpott

It was Grange night on February 8. Master, David Cornell was in charge of the business. Different committees gave reports. [private]Marion Brenenstuhl was in charge of the lecturer’s program. The program theme was on antiques or something to show.

Martha Babbitt had a pair of very old spectacles. These glasses were very old and fragile. Carleton Philpott had a big fat key, that is used in the back door of his house, dated, 1740. Corinne Philpott had a very pretty shaving mug and a lovely hat pin vase with some hat pins in it. Berta Burr had an old antique wood clamp and a wood molding plane. Marion Brenenstuhl had a very old incense burner of a little man, very unusual. David Cornell had two old tools that made holes. One was later indentified as a vintage shoe tool. He also had a 1924 Groveside School book. Teachers were paid $644.00 a year, a dust pan 10 cents, a cord of wood $25.00, and many other interesting things. Natalie Ryan had a very cute butter mold, also some wires used in sewing, hat pins and sewing needles. Corinne P. had a closing about the Chinese Bamboo Tree, that takes five years to sprout, if the farmer waters it every day, but once it does it reaches its full height of 90 feet in six weeks. It takes some of us that long to sprout and do big things.

The Lecturer thanked Marion for the unusual program. Refreshments by Marion B. were apple pie and ice cream. Our next meeting is on March 8, at 7 pm. It is the Photo Contest and Snickerdoodle Contest. We hope for lots of entries.

Mary Remancus is in charge of refreshments. [/private]
