Legislature Mourns Passing Of Don Bogardus

Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature are mourning the passing of Don Bogardus, a fixture of the Hoosick Falls community who served as mayor and in other elected and community capacities. Bogardus passed away Sunday at the age of 85.[private]

Chair of the Legislature Stan Brownell said the Legislature will consider a resolution to adjourn in memory of Bogardus next month.

“Don Bogardus served the community for so many years. He truly loved Hoosick Falls, the people who called the village home, and did so much good over his lifetime,” said Brownell.

Bogardus was well-known in the village as a barber, and Brownell was often a customer in the two-man shop. Bogardus would frequently interrupt hair cuts to field calls regarding village business. He also helped organize the annual Memorial Day Parade in the village.

“Don worked very hard for Hoosick Falls, and no one could question his commitment to the community,” said Brownell.

“He was a fiscally conservative mayor who worked to keep the village affordable. The seniors loved him because they knew he always looked out for them. And he never missed an opening ceremony for Little League, or other organizations in the community. He truly was a man of the people,” said Brownell.[/private]
