Legislature To Sponsor Spring Electronics Recycling Event On April 22

The Rensselaer County Legislature and the County Environmental Management Council will again team up to sponsor a spring electronics recycling day, Chair of the Legislature Stan Brownell announced.[private]
The electronics recycling event will be held on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 from 9:30 am to 2 pm. The recycling event will be held in the parking lot at the County Office Building, 1600 7th Avenue, downtown Troy.
The Legislature and EMC have teamed up for several electronics recycling events, and each of the recycling events has received a great response from residents.
At the April 22 event, most household and electronics items will be accepted free of charge from county residents. Items acceptable for recycling include air conditioners, computers, household appliances, video game units, lawn equipment with oils and fluids removed, cell phones and PDAs, cash registers, microwaves and other items.
Television sets will not be accepted on April 22 due to a change in state regulations. Other items that cannot be accepted include CRT computer monitors, alkaline batteries, fluorescent lamps and light bulbs, liquid and powdered chemicals, paint, cleaning products, tires, and any toxic, flammable or volatile materials.
Legislators said they expect interest in the April 22 event will be significant, and is a great opportunity for county residents to safely dispose of unwanted electronics items.
“These recycling events are a service of the Rensselaer County Legislature and our Environmental Management Council. These events have gotten a great response from residents, and we are looking forward to a great response on April 22,” said Brownell.
“This latest recycling event on April 22 gives residents a great opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted electronics and appliances. We invite county residents with these unwanted items to participate in this Earth Day event,” said Legislator Leon Fiacco, chair of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee.
“The County has been able to collect tons of unwanted items and appliances in an environmental safe, convenient and efficient way. We look forward to participation by county residents on April 22,” said Legislator Judith Breselor, member of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee.
