Driver Fails To Heed Stop Sign

A 96 year old North Bennington man was killed last Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Route 279 and Route 7. [private]Joseph Anton, who was pronounced dead at the scene, failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling west on Route 7 and entered Route 279 into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer.

Dean Shippe, 26, who was the driver of the truck, lives and is based near Brattleboro, VT. Shippee, who was uninjured, was brought to a New York hospital where blood tests were taken. Initial investigation determined that drugs or alcohol were not a factor.

The State Police were assisted at the scene by Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, The Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, and the Hoosick Fire Department. The State Police Collision Reconstruction unit and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded to the scene. [/private]
