HFCS Baseball / Softball Seasons Start

April 13, 2017 By eastwickpress

The weather has played havoc with the early season schedule for baseball and softball at HFCS. If it’s not too cold, it’s raining or snowing. [private]When it’s not raining, the fields are too spongey to play on. The baseball team had to play a couple of games at Lansingburgh HS to get them in and the softball team had its first six games postponed or cancelled. Originally scheduled to play their first game on March 29, the first time they took to the field was Monday, April 10.

Baseball

HF 12 – Cambridge 7

At Lansingburgh High School beginning at 7:15 pm, April 6.

HF O 2-1, L 2-1, Cambridge O 0-2, L 0-2.

Behind 4-3 at the end of four innings, the Panthers outscored the Indians 9-3 over the final three innings to grab the league win. Brandon Decker (1-0, 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings) got the win on the mound, with some relief help from Cody Hodges and Andrew Stevens. Max Kipp had two singles and two RBIs, Andrew Stevens had a single and a double to rap in two RBIs, and Cody Hodges also had a single and a double. Connor Spezio had a single and a double and Patrick Robertson had three singles for Cambridge.

HF 1 – Hoosic Valley 11

At Hoosic Valley HS, April 10, HF 2-3, L 2-3.

The Panthers scored once in the top of the first to grab a short-lived lead. Hoosick Falls created self-infliced wounds in the bottom of the inning when they allowed three walks and committed three errors. The Indians took advantage of every miscue to put seven runs across the plate. The Panthers got their feet under them for the rest of the game but just couldn’t make up the deficit. Ryan Sanders had one RBI. Brandon Decker took the loss on the mound. Hoosic Valley is considered to be one of the top Wasaren League teams, probably the top team.

The team plays home against Mechanicville on Thursday, then travels to Cooperstown to scrimmage Maple HIll on Saturday.

Softball

HF 3 – Hoosic Valley 0

At Hoosic Valley HS, April 10. HF O 1-0, L 1-0; HV O 1-3.

On a spectacular spring day, in her first varsity start, freshman Abby Philpott pitched a seven hit shutout over the Indians. Faith Adamzanko had two RBIs and Mackenzie Ellis had one RBI and rapped out two hits.  [/private]
