Moments In Time Captured In Grafton Artworks

April 28, 2017 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque

There were two very distinct forms of artwork on display in the village center this past Saturday, one the many beautiful pieces of cross stitch, featuring the needlework of a pair of sisters.  [private]The other an open house and art show celebrating the artists and the history of Grafton.

Collage by Nicolette DeMagistris done in 2012 entitled “A Good Used Car,” made of torn pieces of paper and fabric. The old truck that inspired it was laying on the edge of the Behuniak property in Cropseyville. The frame was made from barn wood from the same property. Seen in person, it has a sort of 3-D effect. The Cross Stitch Showcase is presented every two years by Sally Statile, Nancy Stowell, Chris Frederick and Linda Butler.  This marked the third time it was held at the Everett Wagar Senior Center.  The sisters have been involved with cross stitch for about 17 years.  It is a discipline that uses cross stitches on a pattern marked by stars and guidelines of what color thread to use, that create pictures that seem to jump right out at you.

Over at the Town Hall, the Grafton Historical Society opened their display of selected paintings and drawings done by artists from Grafton, as well as many samples of the various artifacts owned by the Historical Society or on loan for the day’s event.  These included clothing, historic photographs and novelty items, not often put out for public viewing.  Both events were free and well attended.  [/private]
