New Lebanon CSD Renovation Project To Go Before Voters May 16

April 13, 2017 By eastwickpress

At its March 15 meeting, the New Lebanon Board of Education approved an $8,755,000 district-wide Renovation Project and a separate $3,100,000 proposition for a gym expansion at Walter B. Howard Elementary School.[private] The proposed renovation project is planned to have no impact on local taxes. Community members will vote on Tuesday, May 16 from 12 noon to 9 pm in the Walter B. Howard Elementary School Gymnasium.

If approved by the community, the project will address security, efficiency and outdated or obsolete facilities at both Walter B. Howard Elementary and the Jr/Sr High facilities.

“It was very important to the Facilities committee and Board of Education to look at areas of renovation that would repair and improve critical infrastructure, provide better safety and security for our students without additional taxes for residents of our community,” said Superintendent Leslie Whitcomb.

At Walter B. Howard Elementary school renovations planned include bathrooms and the kitchen, a gym addition and renovation, lockdown hardware for corridor doors, exterior lighting, tactile signage, and a number of other items.

Very extensive renovations are planned at the Jr/Sr High School, including renovation of locker rooms and bathrooms, and kitchen, replacement of exterior doors, replacement of water fountains,  replacement of the fire alarm panel, improvements to athletic facilities, repaving of parking lots, exterior lighting, and a variety of other items. A full list of items included in the workplan is on the District’s web site, and most of the items can be clicked to see a picture of the site where the work will take place. There is also a video about the renovation project available there.

If community members have additional questions about the Renovation Project, they are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, May 4 at Walter B. Howard Elementary School, or contact Superintendent Leslie Whitcomb at 518-794-7600 Option 3 to schedule a tour of school buildings. A District Renovation Project newsletter will be mailed in April. Community members can log onto the district website any time at http://www.newlebanoncsd.org/renovation-project/ for more information. [/private]
