Liberty Memorial Park To Be Constructed At Maple Grove

May 4, 2017 By eastwickpress

The Hoosick Township Historical Society, Voice of a Vet and Maple Grove Cemetery are excited to announce plans to build a permanent memorial at Maple Grove to honor all Town of Hoosick men who died while in service to their country. [private]Historical Society Director Joyce Brewer has announced that their organization has received a generous grant from Fairfield County Community Foundation – Donor Advised Fund for the express purpose of constructing this memorial in memory of Herbert Oscar Anderson, a beloved Town of Hoosick resident who recently passed away.

Liberty Memorial Park is the next phase of Voice of a Vet’s Tribute Flag Program. The first honored all Town of Hoosick men who died in service with a flag ceremony held at the cemetery where each is buried. To-date, all but 1 of these ceremonies have taken place.

In May 2016, the second phase was kicked off. Adopt a Serviceman gives individuals, families, organizations, churches, etc. an opportunity to purchase memorial crosses for $200 each to honor each of these men.

To date, 30 servicemen have been adopted. Some of their crosses are on display at a temporary memorial located at the front at Maple Grove. This phase will continue until all servicemen have been adopted. It is our hope this will happen by August 12, the date Liberty Memorial Park will be dedicated. This dedication will replace Voice of a Vet’s traditional May event, so mark your calendars.

Since 2012, the Historical Society, Voice of a Vet and Maple Grove, with the help of the Patriot Guard Riders and others, have been working diligently to identify, honor and recognize all Town of Hoosick men who died in service. We hope you are as excited as we are at the thought of a permanent memorial being built to help keep their memory alive for years to come.

You can find more information on how to adopt or make a donation towards adoption in the kiosk at the front of Maple Grove where the crosses are on display. Adoption forms and checks should be sent to Voice of a Vet, P.O. Box 558, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.

Donations to help support the actual construction of Liberty Memorial Park would also be greatly appreciated. Should you feel led to contribute, checks should be made out to Hoosick Township Historical Society and sent to P.O. Box 536, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090. Be sure to make a notation on your check.

For more information on the Town of Hoosick Tribute Flag program or the memorial, contact Tom McMartin (686-5075), Gail Smith (686-9888), or Joyce Brewer (258-5772). [/private]
