Spa Catholic 5 – HF 7

Monday, May 15 at HFCS. On Senior Day on the home field the Lady Panthers got a nice win against Saratoga Spa Catholic. Liz Ryan started the game off with a single and scored on an RBI by Lily Abbott.[private] SC came back to get one run in the top of the second. After a Panther three batter second inning, and the same for SC in the top of the third, the Ladies batted around, starting off with Sydney Miller hitting a double, and totaled three runs for the inning. Neither team scored in the fourth or fifth inning. SC scored twice in the sixth to get within two at 4-3, but the Panthers came back with eight batters, five hits and three runs in the bottom of the inning, grabbing a 7-3 lead. With visions of the recent late inning losses over the weekend, the Ladies watched the first two SC batters get on base and score before getting the third out. Stephanie Merwin two singles and an RBI, Syd Miller went 2-3 with a double and an RBI, Maddy Atherton had a double, Mackenzie Ellis, Liz Ryan, Abby Philpott, Lily Abbott (RBI) and Cecelia Vincent each had singles.

That sixth inning was a killer for the Panthers. Cambridge batted around, plating six runs on three hits before the Panthers could gather three outs. Cambridge catcher Victoria Dupuis provided the highlight of the inning when she hit a three run out-of-the-park home run. The Panthers added one in the seventh inning. Liz Ryan went 3-5, Maddy Atherton was 3-4, Abby Philpott was 2-4 with a double, Cecelia Vincent had a triple, and Breanna Schnakenberg, Stephanie Merwin (RBI), Lily Abbott and Mackenzie Ellis each had a single.

HF 7 – Cambridge 8

Game 2. Saturday, May 13 at HFCS. With revenge on their mind from the tough loss of the first game, the Ladies took a big first inning lead when they sent ten batters to the plate. HF got one run in the top of the fourth when Mackenzie Ellis singled to send Maddy Atherton home, making it 6-2. Cambridge closed the gap to one at 6-5 when they scored three in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Breanna Schnakenberg singled and Liz Ryan got an RBI getting her home. In the bottom of the fifth, the first Cambridge batter hit a triple, then the second batter drove her in with a double, then she scored, tying the game at seven all. In the final inning, the Panthers were unable to score while Cambridge, after the first and third batters singled, was able to get the winning run across the plate on an error. Atherton was 3-4, Abby Philpott was 2-3, Ellis and Stephanie Merwin were 2-4. Cecelia Vincent (2 RBI), Schnakenberg, and Lauren Harrison each had a single. Each team had two errors.
