A Message To The Community From Eastwick Press Publisher Alex Brooks

June 8, 2017 By eastwickpress

The Eastwick Press will cease publication at the end of this month. The last issue will be the June 23 issue.

[private]This newspaper has been run until a few years ago by a partnership of four people. Over the last few years, Bea Peterson and David Flint have retired and long-time Editor Kieron Kramer died, and I have not been able to find people to take their places. The fundamental problem is that the paper does not generate enough income to pay the necessary staff adequately. It has relied, from the beginning, on high-skilled, dedicated staff who are willing to work for low pay, and not surprisingly, such people are hard to find.

Since January I have been trying to find someone willing to take over the paper, and several people have taken a very close look at it and been close to taking it over, but in the end no one wanted to take on the considerable challenge of taking it to the next level and finally making it into a profit-making enterprise. After putting so much of my energy and money into growing this paper over the last 23 years, I just don’t have the resources at this point to take it there myself.

I am grateful for all the help and support that the community has shown me and the newspaper over the years.
