Hoosick Grange News

June 8, 2017 By eastwickpress

submitted by Corinne Philpott

It was Hoosick Grange night on May 24. Marion Brenenstuhl was in charge of the program.[private] She introduced two men from the Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Deputy Paul Davendonis and Mark Geracitana. Paul had his dog Inferno and Mark had his dog, a German Shepherd named Cody with them. Paul’s dog Inferno is used to find fire starting solutions used during a fire to see if it was arson. Mark’s dog Cody is a drug sniffing dog that can find evidence of drugs of all types. Cody is a black, energetic and agressively alert dog, who could bite if his handler let him.

These dogs want to please their handlers. We have seen Paul’s dog Inferno in the past and so Mark went and got his dog. Paul went and hid some marijuana before Cody got in. Cody ran in barking and jumping and was very excited and then went sniffing around and ran straight to the spot where the marijuana package was. Then she got her reward, a piece of leather about a foot long, stuffed and sewed together, and then she was happy. The dogs and handlers work together and train together.

These dogs cost between six and ten thousand dollars apiece, and are worth it. Mark works with Cody at Train Stations and Airports, etc. They catch a lot of drug dealers and gain that money. Paul and Inferno work in places of fires or when someone is susected of arson. These men are trained as E.M.T. -Emergency Medical Technicians. We thanked them for all they do.

Our next meeting is on June 14, at 7 pm, and Natalie Ryan is in charge of the program. Ralph Philpott is in charge of refreshments. [/private]
