Grafton Community Library Art Programs

The Grafton Community Library presents the following workshops as part of the 2017 Grafton Community Arts Program. [Private]Please visit library webpage at www.graftoncommunitylibrary.org for full descriptions.  Pre-registration and payment required.

July 19, 4 to 6 pm—Pressed Flower Art, taught by Artist Alice Tunison–This 2-hour Art Class will explore the time tested art of flower pressing. Participants will learn a variety of ways to preserve flowers as both mementos and decorative art forms. Class size is limited to 15 students, adults and children10 years and older.  Registration Fee:  $15 per student

July 29, 9 am to noon—Coloring Book Workshop, taught by author and artist Joy Ting Charde–This 3-hour workshop will introduce and teach the students about the coloring book movement. The students will learn the drawing basic shapes and patterns to creating their own finished art piece that can be shared with friends and family.  Class size is limited to 24 students, adults and teens.  Registration Fee:  $10 per student

August 29, 9 am to 2 pm—Introduction to Forging, taught by Maria Levin, Sawtooth Jewelry Studio, Troy, NY–In this 5-hour workshop, participants will create two cuff bracelets from heavy gauge wire, one in copper and one in sterling silver.  Students will use hammers, steel mandrels, files and other hand tools to texture and shape metal into a bracelet custom fit to the maker. Class size is limited to 8 students, adults and teens.  Registration Fee:  $20 per student

September 10, 1 to 5 pm—Hydrangea Wreath Making, taught by Niki Russell–Students will prepare the cuttings for a wreath, create a wreath from the cuttings on a frame or use the stripped stems of the hydrangea as the frame to make a wreath.  The instructor will provide the necessary tools for the class.  Class size is limited to 15 students, adults and teens.  Cost:  $10

September 23, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm – Fused Glass Workshop, taught by Ellie Parker–This 4-hour workshop will focus on both understanding the fused glass process and creating jewelry or small glass pieces from glass. The materials will include dichroic glass, first used in the space program and now has become popular with artists.  Class size is limited to 8 students, adults and teens.  Cost:  $20

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.[/Private]
