Liberty Memorial Park Dedication

August 11, 2017 By eastwickpress

submitted by Gail Smith

Memorial crosses and flags are in place for the 102 Town of Hoosick servicemen who died while in service to their country and the finishing touches are being put on Liberty Memorial Park in preparation for its dedication on Saturday, August 12. We hope you will join us as we honor these men.

At 9:45 am, a procession will leave Hoosick Falls Community Church (HFCAC) for St. Mary’s Cemetery where 2 Town of Hoosick men who died in service will be honored with a flag raising ceremony at 10 am. Bus transportation is available.

At approximately 11 am back at HFCAC, a brief video will be shown of Liberty’s travels over the past 4 years; then those who have been instrumental in helping us honor these men since the Town of Hoosick Tribute Flag Program began will be recognized and adoption certificates presented to those who have adopted servicemen. Guest speakers William Schaaf (NYS Ride Captain Patriot Guard Riders), Alan Amelinckx (American Battle Monuments Commission), dignitaries, and the family of Herb Oscar Anderson, in whose memory the park is being built, will share a few words.

Finally, we will move over to Maple Grove Cemetery at about noon for the dedication of Liberty Memorial Park, where flags will be raised and the bell will toll for each one by name.

Light refreshments will be served when all is said and done. The event will be held rain or shine.

For more information on the event or on how to purchase a memorial cross for one of those who have not yet been adopted, call Tom McMartin at 686-5075, Gail Smith at 686-5075, or Joyce Brewer at 258-5722.
