Robert Abbott

Robert L.’’Bob” Abbott passed away peacefully at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation August 8, 2017.

Born on April 19, 1934 in the Town of Pittstown to the late Clifford S. and Anna D. (McGarvin) Abbott. He attended Hoosic Valley Schools.

He proudly entered The United States Air Force, serving from 1954 until 1957 with an honorable discharge.

He then married Norma J. (Peabody) Abbott at St. Monicas  Catholic  Church  in Johnsonville, with Father Collins officiating.

Bob was employed by Wood Flong/Oak Industries.

Bob enjoyed attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He and Tink Foster were instrumental in starting the Mickey Mantle baseball team. He was a diehard New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. Bob was a life-long member of the American Legion Post #13.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years Norma, their children Pamela Abbott and companion David Cook of North Adams, Massachusetts; Shari Brogue, Robert J. and Jan Abbott, all of Hoosick Falls, grandchildren Melissa Gorman and companion Doug Dedrick, Jordan and Josh Brogue, Elijah Abbott, Lily and Noah Abbott, great-grandson Caden Woodard, sister-in-law Theresa Abbott of Pittstown, New York, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Clifford Abbott and his sister and brother-in-law Phillip and Ann (Abbott) Weeden.

Relatives and friends may call at Mahar Funeral Home 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York Saturday August 19 from 10 am until the start of service, which will begin at 11 am. Burial will be private. Following the service the family would like to invite you to join them at the Sand Bar Restaurant located in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church through the funeral home.
