Holy Trinity scored in the first minute and one-half after a Hoosick Falls turnover. Things went downhill from there.
By the end of the first quarter, HT added a 52 yard touchdown pass to grab a 14-0 lead. Quarterback Sam Richard scored on a three yard run to bring the Panthers to within seven. HT had the answer to that when HT’s quarterback Joseph Tortello connected on a 65 yard pass to receiver Nacier Hundley.
Halfway through the second quarter Hoosick Falls was driving for a much needed score to get back within seven and stay in the game. The drive fizzled and HT used its next possession to score on a 76 yard pass. HT added one more score before the half on a 26 yard pass. The halftime score was 34-7.
Holy Trinity was first on the board in the second half when Hundley hauled in a 91 yard pass from Tortello. The Panthers added six to their total on a Richard to Nick Giordano pass for 17 yards.
The teams traded TDs in the fourth quarter. HT scored on a four yard run and AJ Hurlburt caught a seven yard pass from Richard to cap the scoring.
The Panthers held HT to less than 100 yards on the ground, but HT flew through the air in this game. HT’s QB Tortello threw for 285 yards (8/15) and five touchdowns. Hoosick Falls’ Richard threw for 90 yards (13/26) and two touchdowns. Drew Hoag had 97 yards on the ground, with Max Kipp contributing 89 more.
Remaining on the regular season schedule: October 13 against Mechanicville. The game will be at HFCS beginning at 7 pm. Mechanicville was crushed last week by Stillwater, 48-13.
The Tamarac Bengals returned home after a win and a loss on the road, to host the Watervliet Canooneers. Watervliet opened up a 14-0 first quarter lead before Tamarac scored to open the 2nd. The two teams virtually traded touchdowns throughout the rest of the contest, with Tamarac’s attempt at a comeback falling short, 42-32.
Going into the last week of the season, three teams, Mechanicville, Stillwater and Holy Trinity are tied for the Northern Division lead at 5-1. Each team has lost to one of the other two teams. Hoosick Falls (4-2) is fourth. The rest are: 5 – Lake George (3-3), 6 – Fonda (1-5) and 7 – Corinth (0-6). South Division standing are: 1-Watervliet (5-1), 2-Chatham (4-2), 3-Voorheesville (5-1), 4-Tamarac (3-3), 5-Coxsackie-Athens (1-5), 6-Taconic Hills (1-5), Cairo-Durham (0-6).
