Oak-Mitsui In Hoosick Falls To Close

October 15, 2017 By eastwickpress

According to Oak-Mitsui Inc’s press release, the company will cease operations in Hoosick Falls. This will mean the elimination of 20 jobs. The company also says it’s operation has been purchased by CAC Inc. of Lake Forest, Ca. The employees were told of the plant’s closing in a group meeting last Thursday.

The company produces aluminum bonded copper at its Mechanic Street location. Oak-Mitsui also closed its First Street location in 2014, with the loss of 30 jobs. The company began in 1973 as Oak Industries when it purchased the former Noble and Wood plant. In 1976, it joined with Mitsui Mining to become Oak-Mitsui.

The unwelcome news represents yet another blow to Hoosick Falls, but according to Mayor Robert Allen, it’s just another challenge the village will face down. He tells The Eastwick Press “It is always hard to hear news about jobs being lost. With a community as closely knit as ours, we feel every success and every setback together, I think I speak on behalf of the community when I say we all feel awful for the 20 employees who will be without a job. As we have with every challenge we have faced, we will continue to show our strength and perseverance, and demonstrate our dedication to each other. We, as a Board, remain deeply committed to this community, and will continue to right the ship and redefine everyone’s perception of Hoosick Falls into what we know it is already: a beautiful area who continues to grow, despite this setback.”

In its press release, Oak-Mitsui indicated all production will cease by January 2, 2018.
