Ella M. Winter

Hoosick Falls

Ella M. Winter, 94, formerly of Cherry Plain, died peacefully Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls.

Born in Clinton Corners, NY on January 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Fred M. and Grace M. Bailer Diehm. Ella graduated from Mineola High School on Long Island. She was employed by Grummon Aircraft Manufacturing and Swift & Co. Meatpacking Co. both on Long Island. She later moved to Cherry Plain where she resided for over 40 years and was a “gentleman farmer” along with her husband where they maintained a large garden. She was a member of the Berlin Senior Citizens and was named “Senior Citizen of the Year” and also taught crafts there. She was also an officer with the Taconic Valley Historical Society. She loved animals and tending to her garden.

She was the wife of the late George B. Morris who died in 1960 and the late Harry G. Winter who died in 2007; sister of Muriel Danahy of West Sand Lake and the late Doris K. Rose; aunt of Carol Goodermote of Hoosick Falls, Tom Danahy of Arizona and James Danahy of West Sand Lake. She is also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, December 20 at 11 am at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown with Rev. Trygve Tomlinson officiating. Interment followed in the Stephentown Cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited to call.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls, 21 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090 or to the Berlin Free Town Library, PO Box 6, Berlin, NY 12022 or bftl.org.
