Sunday, December 11, 1842: Today my house was thronged with people, on account of the death of L. Angeline. On this morning I borrowed two dollars of Eliza Wylie and one dollar of Jane Carpenter and paid Doctor Robertson for riding out from Troy and I got Aaron Chapman to take my horse and cutter and carry said Doctor Robertson back to Troy, today, and he returned home at ten o’clock this evening. I gave him 50 cts for expenses and when he returned he gave me back 25 cts. Today H. Platt Wylie and wife rode to Lebanon to Moses Tilden’s Store and got the grave clothes for L. Angeline which was six dollars and 60 cts and had charged to my account. Tonight H. Platt Wylie and wife and Fleetus Pierce and Eliza and Deborah Wylie watched.
Monday: On this morning I rode with brother Simeon Wylie to the burying ground to show Mr. Manuel Buten where to dig the grave for L. Angeline. Today our neighbors came in and assisted us in getting ready for the funeral. Fanny Roberts and Mrs. Polly Bigelow came to our house and stayed till nearly night. Tonight James Vennett and Edmond Jolls and Eliza Adams and Mary Jolls watched with us. Today Nathaniel Wylie rode to Pittsfield to inform brother Fred Jay Wylie of the death of L. Angeline and tonight brother F. Jay and wife came and stayed with us.
Tuesday: This morning Alonzo Rodgers came and fetched the coffin that he had made for L. Angeline. It was made of cherry, price ten dollars, with the case. Today at twelve o’clock the funeral was attended at my house and Elder Matthew Jones preached and a large circle of connections of mourners and a crowded house of people that attended. A severe snow storm at the time of going to the grave, my wife health was so feeble she was confined to her bed during the exercises of the funeral ceremony. Tonight Mr. James Bush and wife and Sarah Sackett stayed with us.
