Grand Marshall Named For St. Patrick’s Parade

March 8, 2018 By eastwickpress

Sumitted by Kevin O’Malley

We have a Grand Marshal this year who truly illustrates the greatness of our community: Hoosick Falls. Mal McGuire was born in June 1946 and he has been a lifelong resident. Mal studied at SMA and Hudson Valley Community College. He served our United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and spent time in Germany while in the service.

Mal married a local girl, Linda Delurey. It is rumored they met at Goobers on Clay Hill, one of the great connections they made on Clay Hill. Mr. and Mrs. McGuire have 2 children and 4 grandchildren that they spoil to this day.

Mr. McGuire served the state of New York as an an employee from 1968 until 2002, where he used his knowledge, creativity and humor to advance the work of the New York State Department of Education. He also served the youth of Hoosick Falls by giving service to our youth center for more than 15 years. Mal is now retired and he can be frequently found in the Sandbar, Key West and visiting his children and grandchildren.

All of us in the village love his ready smile and quick quips to brighten our days; we are certainly honored to have him as the 2018 Grand Marshall of the Hoosick Falls Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade is on Saturday, March 17 at Noon. The Irish Festival begins at 1 pm in Downtown Hoosick Falls.
