A Second Threat At Berlin MS/HS

March 2, 2018 By eastwickpress

Dy Doug LaRocque

About 2 pm on Tuesday, February 27, school administrators were again told by students that another student was making comments about shooting up the school. That student was quickly detained by school officials, who determined the threat had no credibility, but also immediately called State Police. The threat was made just as students were being dismissed, so those already on buses were held there, while the rest of the school, as well as the Elementary school sheltered in place for about 20 minutes. According to School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young, the student in question was not armed. State Police are continuing their investigation, and as of press time, it was not know what charges the student may face.

Dr. Young tells The Eastwick Press there will be an educational disciplinary hearing at the school to determine what course the district will take with the student. This hearing could result in expulsion from the district. This is the second such threat in less than two weeks, the first coming one day after the Parkland, FL shooting. Dr. Young has posted a letter to district residents as a follow-up to that incident. A copy of the letter is on page 3 of this week’s edition.
