John A. Burdick

April 19, 2018 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls, NY

John A. Burdick, 66, a resident of Hoosick Falls, peacefully passed away after a long and hard fought battle with cancer on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hoosick Falls on May 23, 1951, John was the son of Forrest and Shirley Burdick. A 1970 graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, he attended Hudson Valley Community College and then began his career as a Master Electrician.

John Burdick

Throughout the years, John was employed by J.A. Bradley & Sons, LaCorte E.C.M, D.L.C. Electric, and successfully owned and operated KAD Electric. He was a highly respected Union Brother of IBEW L.U. 236 for over a decade. John established himself in the trade with poise, professionalism and probably the driest sense of humor on any jobsite.

In his spare time John enjoyed travelling, spending time at the beach, watching and attending NASCAR races and being a handyman for anyone who needed assistance. He was a member of the B.P.O Elks No. 178. He was also an active parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls and was dedicated to assisting with various projects over the years; most recently John was very involved with the church restoration project. He was also a lover of sports in general, especially when it gave him the opportunity to criticize the pitching staff of the New York Yankees.

On May 22, 1976 John married his loving wife, Mary Teresa (“Terri”) at the Immaculate Conception Church. For 42 years Terri was the sunshine of John’s life which only brightened as their family grew. John and Terri were blessed with three children: Michael (Myla) Burdick, Krista Burdick and Todd (Colleen) Burdick. In later years John and Terri were once again blessed with grandchildren and he fully embraced his role as “Poppa.” Thomas (6), Sunny (5), River (2) and Cora (1) all had their tiny hands wrapped around Poppa’s heart. The smile his grandchildren brought to John’s face was brighter than words could ever describe.

In addition to these family members, John leaves behind his sister Judy (Jeff) Brownell and brother Jeff (Jean) Burdick, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends. The highlights of John’s life were always focused on family. From coaching Little League through college athletics to family vacations and just relaxing with the ones he loved – family time was always his favorite.

John is predeceased by his parents Forrest and Shirley Burdick, mother in-law Joan Rogers, father in-law Raymond Rogers as well as many other treasured family members from both the Burdick and Rogers families.

Services were held on Tuesday, April 17 at 2 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 67 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Visitation took place prior to the service, in the church, from 12 to 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Immaculate Conception Church or the Karen and Molly McGovern Fund through the Mahar Funeral Home.
