Brunswick Plaza Expansion Questions Arise

May 10, 2018 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque with Brittni Russell

At the April 19 Brunswick Planning Board meeting, the Nigro Companies unveiled a proposed expansion of the Planned Development District (PPD) that would see construction of a Taco Bell and a Sunmark Federal Credit Union in the current open space at the front of the Plaza. The initial discussion was meant to be conceptual in nature, but there were concerns raised about parking, traffic patterns and green space.

At the Thursday, May 3 meeting, Nigro attempted to address some of these concerns, adjusting the number of parking spaces downward slightly to hopefully increase the amount of green space, also adding plans for a pedestrian crosswalk. A public hearing was scheduled for the next Board meeting on Thursday, May 17 at 7 pm. nIssues with changes to the PPD will also be a topic of discussion for the May 11 Town Board meeting, which will hold its own public hearing starting at 6:30 pm. Two other issues on the agenda were not addressed that night.

The proposed Ace Hardware expansion was delayed so the applicant can finish addressing wetland concerns raised at a previous meeting.

The High Peaks Community Solar Project proposed for land behind the Hope Methodist Church on Route 2 in the Eagle Mills section of the town, was also postponed while the applicant deals with changes ordered by the Army Corp of Engineers.
