Monarch Butterflies (Danaus plexippus) have begun their annual migration from central and eastern Canada and the midwestern United States, to the Transvolcanic mountains of central Mexico.
They travel up to 3,000 miles. Here is a monarch caterpillar found on the stem of a milkweed plant, which is the only plant that monarch caterpillars eat.
