Planning Starts Now For The Bicentennial Next Year
By Doug La Rocque
Fair manager Carly Reyna tells The Eastwick Press that it appears attendance for this year’s run was up about five percent, coming in at about 100,000. The fair repeated dollar day on August 29, the opening day, which was such a great innovation last year. Ms. Reyna says the heat and humidity kept crowds down a little when compared to last year, a problem that reoccurred on Monday, making it feel more like a Fourth of July weekend than Labor Day.

The fair is making some adjustments in preparation for next year’s 200th anniversary edition. The sanctioned tractor pulls will continue to be held on Sunday, and the “BIG” concert to celebrate the bi-centennial will be held on Thursday.
One of the highlights of this year’s fair was the entertainment line-up, with many people telling fair management the Cirque Ma’Ceo show was worth the cost of admission alone. There were some changes to the midway lineup as well, adding a larger kiddie section, that was well received.
