Monday July 15, 1844: I called to Sylvenas Carpenter the second and got nine of my cheese boxes that he fetched for me from Pittsfield. I returned to said Russel Palmer and took his one horse team and carried twelve boxes cheese to Pittsfield to Peck & Doge and took a receit for Boston to sell and I got the pay for the eleven cheese last or second sending to Boston by them, which was 11 dol 79 cts and freight bill and freight of the return of nine boxes was thirty cts, and there were ten dol and 22 cts to be divided the 1/4 for said Russel Palmer and tonight when I returned I paid him his share of the cash, two dol and 55 cts. I returned home by way of the two Shaker villages and called to see brother Sylvester Holcomb at his son Rufus Kendal’s, and brother Sylvester told me the particulars concerning Alonzo Rodgers sawing said sill in two. He said he tried to stop said Rodgers sawing the sill in two but could not and after it was done he came over to my house and told me of it and I was very much displeased at said Rodgers.
Wednesday: I called and saw James H. Rich and found my two horse pleasure wagon was not finished as the time agreed on had gone by and he agreed to make me a fashionable box and take my two boxes in pay for the one as we had talked before, and I agreed to wait a short spell longer for my wagon to be finished.
Thursday: Today we hayed, and today Mr. Joshua B. Maxon oxen broke into my meadow over his fence and I drove the said cattle home and told him of it.
Saturday: I took my single wagon and carried a grist of corn 1 1/2 bushel to Adams Mill and while it was grinding I rode up to Randal A. Brown’s Store and paid ten cents for a gimblet and I counciled him concerning my lawsuit with Simeon G. Goodrich and I called to Howard’s post office and got my Budget paper and this afternoon I walked over to Newton Goold’s and paid one year and a half interest up to July 1st of the present month on a 69 dollars note. I paid seven dollars and 24 cts and had it endorsed on the back of said note, and from there I walked to Squ James and Gideon Thomas drew me a declaration before the court and I joined issue with Simeon G. Goodrich and I laid my declaration before the court and my defendant pled in an abatement (moderate) but the court was agreed by the parties to be adjourned to Ferdinand C. Brown’s three weeks from today at 2 o’clock pm which is on the tenth of August. I took out a subpoena and I paid Gideon Thomas fifty cents for drawing my declaration and I rode part of the way home with Simeon G. Goodrich and then walked the rest of the way and got home at dayly down.
