Coach Jones Gets 150th Win
HF 47 at Granville 16
In what was being billed as a big game that could go either way, Hoosick Falls made the one hour trip up Route 22 to visit the Granville Golden Horde Saturday for an afternoon game. The matchup lived up to its billing for the first half until the Panthers took over the second half by outscoring the Horde 27-0 and taking away any thoughts the Horde had about getting a big win on their home field.
The Panthers opened the scoring with a 30 yard pass from quarterback Sam Richard to Isiah Burnett. The two-point after touchdown pass attempt was unsuccessful, giving the Panthers a six point lead.
Later in the first quarter, Granville evened the score when Cody Rice hauled in a 19 yard pass from Nick Andrus. The converted two-point conversion rushing play gave the Horde the lead at 8-6.
Hoosick Falls struck again through the air when Richard hooked up with Isaac Friel for a nine yard score. Jeff Vincent ran in the extra point try and the Panthers retook the lead at 14-8. Richard and Friel combined later in the quarter for a 22 yard score and with the failed PAT running play the Panthers led 20-8.
Granville got within four later in the quarter when they scored on a one yard drive. The Panthers held a 20-16 lead at the half.
From there it was all Hoosick Falls. The Panthers scored four second-half touchdowns that Granville couldn’t answer. Jeff Vincent scored twice in the third quarter on runs of 27 and six yards and Richard scored a defensive touchdown when he picked up a loose ball and returned it 55 yards for a TD.
Vincent romped 209 yards on 23 carries. Granville had 95 yards on the ground. Richard threw 18 times, completing 12 for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Granville had 119 yards through the air. Burnett had three catches for 52 yards, Vincent caught seven passes for 48 yards while Josh Colegrove had one for 25 yards.
The win gave Panther Head Coach Ron Jones his 150th win. His 150-68 record includes an 8-1 record in Section 2 championship games, six regional championships, three New York State Finals and one state championship. Ironically, Ron’s mentor Ken Baker had a 151-61-6 record.
When asked about coaching at HFCS, Jones said, “I’m really happy to represent Hoosick Falls football. It is the only way I could ever repay my coaches, Ken Baker, Dick Reeve, Guy Baker, Kal Greenburger and many great teachers for taking an interest in me. He summed it up with “I’m really glad that I came back home.”
Next week the Panthers host winless Corinth on the HFCS field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Stillwater 42 at Tamarac 22
The Bengals had a tough job to do on this evening, trying to contain the Stillwater Warriors high-powered offense. The Warriors came in undefeated and kept that record intact by getting out to a quick 21-0 end of first quarter lead.

Stillwater scored on runs of 38, 5 and 24 yards in the opening period. Stillwater’s Mason Seymour, all of maybe 135 pounds of him, dodged and faked his way to the end zone for the first two. By the end of the game, Seymour had 210 rushing yards on 24 carries.
The Bengals scored in the second quarter when Bo Catherwood dove in from one yard out then tacked on two more points when Tyler Bogan completed a pass to Catherwood.
The Bengal’s scored twice more in the second half when Frank Zotto hauled in a 53 yard pass from Catherwood, then the pair hooked up again for a 25 yard pass later in the half.
Tamarac travels west to play Canajoharie-Fort Plain on Friday evening. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Cambridge/Salem 54 at Lake George/Hadley Luzerne 0
C/S did its usual thing once again this week when they ran over LG/HL on offense and held them scoreless with their stingy defense. Held to one touchdown in the first quarter, the Indians poured it on in the second when they scored four touchdowns and put 28 points on the board.
By the end of the game, Tommy English had four touchdowns, three rushing and one 61 yard catch, Tyler Linendoll had three rushing and Aden Terry had one on the ground.
C/S makes the short drive to Greenwich this Friday, Oct. 12, to play the Witches. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
