October 19, 2018 By steve bradley

The first weekend of The 2018 New York State Section 2 – Class C play will find Lake George/Hadley-Luzerne visiting the Hoosick Falls Panthers on Friday night, October 19. Hoosick Falls defeated the War Eagles three weeks ago by a score of 38-14. LG/HL defeated Granville last Saturday to earn its way into the game. Both teams lost to the 800 pound gorilla in the room, Cambridge-Salem. Game starts at 7 pm.

Also on Friday night, Stillwater travels to South Division champ Chatham for a 7 pm start. Stillwater

lost to Holy Trinity last Friday, losing not only the game but the Central Division championship, which they would have won outright had they won. Chatham suffered its first loss last Friday to non-league Greene. It’s hard to tell what Chatham has, as they play in what is considered the weakest division of the Class C’s.

Saturday will find South Division member Helderberg Valley in Cambridge for a 1 pm start. Cambridge-Salem is the team to beat in the C’s and anyone who has hopes of playing in a regional game is going to have to defeat the Indians on their home turf.

Holy Trinity, last years Class C state champs, hosts Voorheesville Saturday at 1 pm. Holy Trinity also has one loss, a 35-17 home loss to Cambridge.

Corinth 8 at Hoosick Falls 45

Friday, 10/12. Jeffrey Vincent romped for 130 yards, 74 on one run, as Hoosick Falls scored 19 points in the first quarter to take a lead that the winless-in-2018 Corinth Tomahawks never challenged. By the time halftime came along, the Panthers held a 32-0 advantage. Although the Tomahawks were unable to handle the offense or defense of the Panthers, they gave it their best until the final whistle.

Vincent ended the night with 212 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries. Freshman Josh Colegrove rushed 19 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Sam Vincent had 26 yards on four carries, and threw seven passes, completing four for 56 yards and one touchdown. On the receiving side, Max Kipp, returning to action after an injury that had him out for a couple weeks, had one catch for 26 yards. Vincent had one for 21 yards, Tyler Maynard caught one for seven yards and Jacob Travis had one catch for five yards.

Tamarac 18 at Canajoharie-Fort Plain 6

Friday, 10/12. Tamarac scored 12 third quarter points, the first points of the game by either team, then added another in the fourth to outscore the C-FP Cougars. The Bengal defense allowed the C-FP Cougars just six points later in the fourth quarter to grab the win.

Cambridge/Salem 49 at Greenwich 3

Friday, 10/12. Cambridge-Salem scored three first quarter touchdowns, topped off with a kicked PAT for each one, to take a 21 point lead before Greenwich ever knew what hit them. C-S continued the play the way a ranked number one in New  York state team plays. By halftime, C-S held a 35-0 lead and the Witches were down for the count. C-S only scored one more touchdown from scrimmage for the remainder of the game. Greenwich scored in the fourth quarter on a 25 yard field goal.

Tyler Linendoll rushed for 100 yards on eleven carries, and scored three touchdowns including an 87 yard kickoff return. Tommy English ran for 127 yards on ten carries and scored two touchdowns. Kaedin Ogilvie rushed once for 53 yards and one TD. Calvin Schneider threw four passes, completing 2, one for a touchdown, for nine total yards.
