Football – Panthers Struggle Early, Win 18-6

October 25, 2018 By steve bradley

In front of a smallish crowd, the Hoosick Falls Panthers offense had trouble getting going on Friday evening. A second quarter defensive touchdown helped get the Panthers on track to record an 18-6 win.

The  Panthers gave up an early touchdown to Lake George/Hadley Luzerne when the War Eagles Logan Duers scored on a thirteen-yard run. For the rest of the half both teams moved the ball but once inside the opponent’s thirty yard line, offenses stalled.

With just under two minutes left in the second quarter, on a LG/HL running play, tackle Dmitri Rose came out of a pile-up with the ball and headed for the goal line. He made it to the LG 18 yard line before he was dragged down from behind.

On the next play quarterback Sam Richard connected with running back Jeff Vincent for a score. That tied the game at 6-6. The momentum of that play carried over into the third quarter when Hoosick Falls put the ball into the endzone twice. Vincent hauled in another pass from Richard for a 45 yard score and Richard dove in from one yard out for another. Neither team made a PAT attempt.

Vincent carried the ball 35 times for 229 yards while Richard had 74 yards on ten carries. Richard threw 11 times, completing 5 for 74 yards and two touchdowns. LG/HL had 219 yards on the ground. Vincent caught two passes for 63 yards. Isaac Friel and Isiah Burnett each had one catch for 10 yards.
