George’s Lawsuit Is Resolved

Friday, September 13, 1844: Today my wife visited to the widow Murphy’s. John Wylie carried her there and my wife tended an anti-rent meeting at Jones, a large number of Indians were there or men in disguise. This afternoon my oldest son and oldest daughter tended a Whig meeting at Lebanon Springs
Saturday: We drew rails from off the hill and we laid up rail fence and moved the barnyard fence larger. We sorted potatoes, the rotten ones out.
Sunday: I walked up to cousin Orra Holcomb to see his sick child. I found the child had revived.
Tuesday: I took my two wheel carriage and rode to Berlin to engage Squ Lotridge to attend to my suit against Simeon G. Goodrich, but he was not home and I returned home without making any engagements. I took tea at his house.
Wednesday: I paid eight cents to the anti-Shaker herbist store for a paper cough losinges.
Saturday: This forenoon I shock up corn on my Rodgers farm and this afternoon I walked up to R. A. Brown’s to see to my court and I went and subpoenaed George Glass and this evening I walked up to Ralph Rose and got a letter from Squ Lotridge to let me know that he could not tend to my suit.
Sunday: This morning I walked up to R.A. Brown’s to see him concerning Squ Lotridge not coming to attend to my court and said Brown advised me to get a lawyer from Nassau by the name of Bingham, but I did not get him for he had a previous engagement.
My daughter Charlotte rode with me to the Grove meeting near Bigelow’s. I on the way home called to the widow Murphy’s and took supper and then found Charlotte at the Methodist meeting and we came home. This forenoon I called on Elisha Clark to inspect the house that Simeon G. Goodrich repaired for me.
Tuesday: This forenoon I walked up to R. A. Brown’s to see him concerning my court but he was not to home.
Wednesday: This forenoon I took my two wheel carriage and rode to Lebanon Shakers and met brother Sylvester Holcomb and fetched him home with me for a witness to court I have this afternoon with Simeon G. Goodrich and we met for trial at two o’clock and said Goodrich gave me five dollars to settle and I paid the cost which was one dol and 83 cts and I gave Randal A Brown one dol and fifty cts. Brother Sylvester Holcomb stays with me tonight and I gave him twelve pounds of pork.
