The Cambridge-Salem Indians football season came to an end on a cold, wet Friday evening at Potsdam High School. The Indians fell to the Ogdensburg Blue Devils, 16-6 in a state regional matchup.
Moving up to Class C this year after two Class D state championship seasons, the Indians high powered offense was kept in check. Tommy English and Tyler Linendoll, normally good for a combined 300 or more rushing yards, were held to less than 200 yards combined. Three Cambridge-Salem fumbles didn’t help the cause either.
The Blue Devils scored twice, once on a three yard run on their first possession of the game and once in the second quarter on a 55 yard pass play, for their only points of the game. Their defense, the key to the game, held the Indians scoreless until the fourth quarter, when English got loose for a 41 yard rushing score. The Indians held the Blue Devils scoreless in the second half, but couldn’t put enough points on the board to overtake the head start Ogdensburg had.
Section 2 has no Class C or D football teams still playing. In Class D, Moriah Central (Port Henry) defeated Warrensburg Friday evening.
