Christmas Tree Lighting

December 13, 2018 By steve bradley

by Bea Peterson

A crowd gathered in Wood Park at 6 pm on Saturday, December 8 for the official lighting of the tree in the gazebo, organized by Hoosick Rising. On behalf of the organization, Marianne Zwicklbaer welcomed everyone and thanked the many people who made the decorating of the trees around the Village and this particular event possible.

On a crisp early evening that came complete with Santa Claus and a surprise beautiful Christmas-eve-type snowfall, Hoosick Falls Wood Park hosted what is planned to be the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Photo by Steve Bradley

In the gazebo with her were members of the HFCS chorus, the Hoosac School chorus and the community band. The caroling was led by Shari Hand. Santa arrived in a beautiful sleigh, which was on a flatbed pulled by a lighted tractor. Kids gathered around him while he made his way to the gazebo. As he led the countdown to the tree lighting a lovely light snow began to fall. It was a beautiful moment, far surpassing any Hallmark movie.

After the tree lighting, folks of all ages walked behind Santa and his sleigh down John and Church Streets to Unihog Barbecue. Once inside everyone enjoyed plentiful homemade cookies, hot cider, hot chocolate and/or coffee. There was a beautifully decorated tree and a special chair and space set up for Santa to hear all the children’s wishes for Christmas.

It was a fantastic community event.
