Local Gold
This injured Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) lives at the Berkshire Bird Paradise in Petersburgh. A majestic bird, with a wash of gold on its hindneck, Golden Eagles are native to the U.S. with most birds living in the west.

They favor open country around mountains, hills, and cliffs. Cara, another Golden Eagle that was blind and riddled with buckshot pellets, was brought to the Berkshire Bird Paradise when a veterinarian said she would not live long. Cara lived there for 28 years and had chicks that were released in the wild.
