Area Wrestling Results

The New York State Wrestling Championships will take place at the Times Union Center, Friday, February 22 and Saturday, Februany 23. 

Results from the Section 2 Championships held at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls on Februany 9-10.

Hoosick Falls

Craig Sawyer came home the Panthers only champion, getting his at 285. It is his second championship. Sawyer defeated Christion Salvio of Schalmont by fall at 1:12.

Gabe Fisher, at 113 pounds, was defeated in the championship round in a triple overtime thriller. He wrestled Joseph Scheeren of Galway High School. Fisher almost scored the win in the last seconds but came up a little short.

In the 132 pound class, Matt LaPorte faced two time state champion Trent Svingala of Maple Hill High School. LaPorte was defeated by technical fall.

In the 152 pound matches, HFCS seniors Sam Richard and Ethan Mattison faced each other for the fifth and sixth place finish. Mattison defeated Richards by fall at 2:27.

Berlin-New Lebanon

In the Championship-Round 1, at 113 pounds, Seamus Paige of Hudson Falls defeated Evan Yerdon, 13-5.

Tamarac

Trevor Bishop, at 99 pounds, took fifth place over Luke York of Cobleskill-Richmond HS.

Christian Crandall, at 113 pounds, was defeated in the round three consolation by John Freebern of Corinth HS. 

Riley Retell, at 120 pounds, was defeated in the championship match by Kaden Gransbury by a 5-4 decision.

Hunter Yearsley, at 126 pounds, took fifth place over Quinton Fox of Hadley-Luzerne-Lake George by fall at 2:10.

Bobby Treshock, at 138 pounds, defeated Zack Davis of Warrensburg-Bolton by decision for third place.

Peyton Nealon, at 160 pounds, was defeated by David Leon of Schalmont HS in the third place match.

Andrew Yerdon, at 170 pounds, was defeated by Nate Warrington of Corinth HS by 13-2.

Jack Mays, at 195 pounds, was defeated in the round two consolation by Cameron Duers of Hadley-Luzerne-Lake George.

Salem-Cambridge

Jacob Haynes, at 99 pounds, was defeated by Trevor Bishop of Tamarac HS by fall at 2:33.

Charlie Dill, at 106 pounds, was defeated in consolation round three by Cody Haig of Canajoharie-Fort Plain, 13-5.

Jacob Lisowski, at 120 pounds, was defeated by John Dunham of Watervliet-Heatly by fall at 2:14.

Jamie Olvera, at 145 pounds, was defeated by Gary Spotswood of Hadley-Luzerne-Lake George by decision, 3-0.

Matthew Gerber, at 152 pounds, was defeated by Sam Richards of Hoosick Falls.

Hunter Day, at 160 pounds, was defeated by Justin Hoffman of Hadley-Luzerne-Lake George in the fifth place match by decision, 5-0.
