Tamarac 6 15 17 10 48

Cambridge 24 13 7 12 56

Monday, 2/11. Wasaren League Championship game between division leaders Cambridge and Tamarac held at Mechanicville High School.

After the Cambridge Indians rained 3-pointers on Tamarac’s defense throughout the first quarter, taking a 24-6 lead, Tamarac spent the remainder of the game chipping away at that lead.

Jumping out to an 18 point lead on shots that only had eyes for the center of the hoop, Cambridge looked like they were going to embarrass the Bengals. Tamarac regrouped somewhat in the second quarter to hold its own and keep the lead from becoming larger.

All really good things must come to an end and the hot shooting of the Indians did just that. At the same time the Bengals were doing some scoring of their own. Slowly but surely the Bengals whittled away at the Cambridge lead. By the end of the third quarter, the Bengals were nipping at the heels of the Indians, 38-44.

Fortunately for Cambridge, their shooting touch returned. They didn’t have the net smoking like earlier in the game, but enough to hold their own. The Indians never gave up the  lead, but the Bengals made it exciting.

Lilly Phillips had 17 points, Stasia Epler had 16 and Ruth Nolan added 14 for Cambridge. Emily Erickson had 21 points and Syrita Faraj chipped in 14 for Tamarac.

Last year in this championship game, Cambridge got out to an early big lead then Tamarac came back to pull out a win when they kept their wits about them and Cambridge appeared to panic. Same scenario this year, different outcome. This time the Indians didn’t panic and just kept doing what they do, they are a more experienced team now and that may have been the difference.
