Winter White and Blue
Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera) tree bark turns white after about ten years and builds in paper-like layers.
Although the white bark on a living tree may look like it can be peeled off, it will not be replaced if removed. Although this tree is still standing in the Petersburgh woods, it is dotted with polypore mushrooms and no longer alive. It remains beautiful against the blue sky.
