Sheriff Pat Russo Seeks a Second Term Of Office

February 21, 2019 By steve bradley

It has been both an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Rensselaer County as their Sheriff.

When I was elected by the people of Rensselaer County, they placed their trust in me to keep our communities safe and follow through on my campaign promises.  I have traveled extensively throughout the county to all 14 towns, 5 villages and two cities and I have met many of you and have listened to your thoughts concerning your public safety and well-being.

I continue to support having all of our deputies be certified EMTs and carry Narcan to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose.  I have increased the training opportunities for our deputies and correctional officers and am proud to say that the Sheriff’s Office is better trained and better equipped than at any time in its history.

I have also strengthened the relationships with our federal, state and local partners so that we are able to have a coordinated approach to enforcement efforts.

I, along with members of my staff, have moved the Sheriff’s Office into a more community involved agency.  Our Child Safe and Senior Safe Programs are well received by the community, as well as our Project Lifesaver and the NYS Sheriffs Association Yellow Dot Program.  We began to provide Active Shooter Training (Run/Hide/Fight) to seniors, community groups and businesses and have trained over 1,000 individuals.

We have also provided opportunities for residents to dispose of unwanted medications by holding Drug Take-Back events throughout the year.

Our jail continues to be an accredited facility, which offers many educational opportunities for those incarcerated and by our cooperation with the U.S.  Marshals Service, we continue the housing-in of federal inmates, which in 2018, resulted in over $4 million of revenue.

Should the people of Rensselaer County elect me to a second term, I pledge to continue working with the County Executive’s Office and members of the Legislature to provide quality services to the taxpayers in a fiscally responsible manner.

Most importantly, I took an oath to support and uphold the Constitution of the United States, The Constitution of the State of New York and faithfully discharge the duties of the Office of Sheriff to the best of my ability.  This is what I have done and will continue to do.
