Bid Accepted For Second Portion Of Sewer Project
By Doug La Rocque with Brittni Russell
Because of some conditions and requirements placed by New York State agencies, the village was forced to rebid Phase 2 of the sewer improvement project involving the Lyman Street and River Road pump stations. At a special Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night, February 25, the village officially accepted the bid from J Squared Construction Corporation for the additional $1.163 million in additional costs. The added expenses bring the overall cost of the project to $5.25 million, with about $1 million being paid for by a state grant.
Additional Bonding
The trustees also passed a resolution to issue an additional $1.25 million in bonds to help pay the village’s share of the project. The bond issuance is subject to a Permissive Referendum, meaning if enough taxpayers were to sign a petition, the matter would have to go to a public vote before the bonds could be issued.
Before adjourning, the board also approved a motion to allow the use of Wood Park and its gazebo for the annual Wood Memorial Road Race on May 18.
No Faces Will Change
According to Village Clerk Marie O’Neil, the deadline to file nominating petitions for three seats on the Village Board, as well as that of Mayor, have passed, with only the incumbents submitting their names. That means Mayor Rob Allen, and trustees Rob Ryan, Brian Bushner and Kevin O’Malley face no opposition in their re-election efforts. Voting is March 19.
